What to ask?
Parents usually have many questions when new services begin for their child. In order to feel comfortable with your child’s new program, it is important to ask your questions in the beginning and keep asking questions throughout your child’s experience. Below are some suggested questions you may want to ask the people providing services to your child:
- How will I know if my child is progressing?
- Will I receive written reports? How often?
- How will you coordinate with my child’s other service providers?
- What is the family's role in my child’s therapy and program?
- Can I visit and / or observe my child during therapy? How often?
- When will I have the opportunity to meet with all the members of my child’s team together?
- Are there things I can do at home to help his/her program?
- What other community services would benefit my child?
